Berkshire Vision

Berkshire Vision (formerly known as Berkshire County Blind Society) is an independent charity that aims to enable and support visually impaired people in Berkshire to live independently and to enhance their quality of life.

Services include:

Support for children and families

We support children and young people from birth to 19 from across Berkshire and their immediate families, including parents and siblings and anyone affected by their sight loss.

We currently have over 100 members, all of whom have a severe diagnosed eye condition. Approximately 75% of our younger members have other disabilities. Referrals are received from Local Authority Sensory Needs Teams, the Sensory Consortium Service or through self-referral.

Throughout the year, a comprehensive timetable of outings and activities is available for children, young people and their families with many events including sensory experiences.

18-35 Social Group

Regular get-togethers are available for this group. Members meet with other partially sighted young adults living in Berkshire, this gives them a sense of friendship and takes the isolation away from how they may feel.

Parents, carers or friends are welcome, or to promote independence wherever possible, we can provide DBS checked volunteers to offer support

Sports clubs - for young people up to the age of 26

The Get Active Sports Club was originally set up to improve the physical health, self-esteem, social interaction and general well-being of the visually impaired children we support.

Regular activities include: Cricket,Tennis, Beep baseball, Swimming, Keep fit classes, Belly dancing, Acoustic shooting, Athletics, Go-karting, Goalball, Wall-climbing, Ten-pin bowling, Boating, Archery, Tandem cycling.

Activities in Windsor and Maidenhead include Tandem cycling in Windsor Great Park and tennis sessions at Windsor Lawn Tennis Centre.
