Local Offer Description

Magnet Leisure Centre hosts the following activities and provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities:

  • Sportsable host a swim session every Sunday 8-10pm
  • Starfish swim session every Saturday 5-6pm for children and adults with learning difficulties
  • Autism Berkshire offer trampolinine sessions on set dates on a Saturday 8:45-9:45 am.  Please see their website for details.
  • A sensory room

We also run the swimmobility programme. Swimmobility is a free swimming programme for residents that receive the higher rate of disability allowance. Alternatively for residents that do not receive the higher rate we offer Advantage plus, this entitles the user to a discounted rate of swimming. Any carers accompanying customers with additional needs swimming will do so free of charge.

Is your service accessible?
The centre has a lift to the first floor and there is also a passenger lift in the gym. There are disabled toilets, changing facilities with hoist and bed and a pool hoist.
What are the eligibility criteria for your service?
Some activities are age restricted. For example holiday activities are accessible for 5-12 year olds. Each person's needs will be looked at individually as long as we have staff with the correct qualifications.

Feedback and complaints procedure
If a customer wishes to make a complaint, this can be made to the Sports Development Officer (SDO) or Duty Manager.
The SDO or Duty Manager will attempt to answer your queries to the best of their ability.
If you are not satisfied with their responses you will be given the opportunity to complete a customer feedback form. This form goes straight to the Centre Manager.
How will I know my child/ young person will be safe using this service?
All staff undertake Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and must complete an induction and safeguarding training before commencing their employment.
