The Adult Dyslexia Centre

The Adult Dyslexia Centre is a charity supporting dyslexic adults in the Thames Valley from its base in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

We provide information, advice, assessments, workshops and short courses for adults with dyslexia. We also support teachers with dyslexic students and provide assessments for children and help for parents.

We address dyslexia in the workplace and its impact on employers.

We aim to increase awareness of dyslexia and its effects in educational, employment and family settings.

Workshops and courses include:

  • Literacy class: Wednesdays 10-12 term time
  • Basic IT class Wednesdays 12.30-14.30 Term time
  • One-to-one tuition (literacy)
  • Self-development courses (evenings)

Is your service accessible?
We have a disabled toilet downstairs but not upstairs. There is no lift.
All our tutors are trained to work with individuals who have dyslexia or related specific learning difficulties.
What are the eligibility criteria for your service?
Individuals would need to have a diagnosis of dyslexia or related Specific Learning Difficulty or history of need related to their education.
How are referrals/applications made to your service?
A referral is not required and individuals (or their families) can self-refer. Individuals are seen initially by the Centre manager before any support is offered.
What is your service standard for responding to referrals/accessing services?
For classes, the start time depends on how many are already in the class. The literacy and Basic IT are roll-on, roll-off courses. One-to-one tuition can start as soon as a suitable tutor can be found. This service can only be offered free if we have funds available to support it.

We were reaccredited with the Matrix Quality Mark for Information, Advice and Guidance in March, 2015
Feedback and complaints procedure
We have a complaint number which is clearly visible on the flier that an individual is given after their initial interview.
How will I know my child/ young person will be safe using this service?
All our tutors and advisors hold a current DBS certificate. We have policies regarding Child Protection and the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults.
